Week 3 Exercise 7

Yes I love all sorts of technology - but I often feel guilty that I spend too much time with the fun stuff and not enough time on the stuff that's supposed to make me more productive. Of course this feeling is then offset by the time-sucking tool called work e-mail.

Week 3 Exercise 6

Looks like there are a lot of fun things to do with your photos... I just poked around with two for this exercise. I looked at making a magazine cover... but it had too many lines of info to fill out and I am still trying to catch up! So I went with the Warholizer... very cool. Unfortunately it did not totally live up to my high expectations... I thought I would get a set of nine "Warholized" pics a la the example shown. However every set I tried resulted in at least two if not more of the frames being completely colored in. I am sure anyone looking over my shoulder probably thought I was goofing off at work... playing with pictures of my baby niece... but I was not... yeah Lib 2.0! Anyway, as I am so very inventive I finally gave up and just picked one. Tah dah...

Week 3 Exercise 5

So... I plucked this photo titled " Whitman Mother Goose cover" off of Flickr for this assignment... I thought I'd just do a quick search for "Mother Goose" and have a slew of cute images to represent all the MG rhymes I am planning to read to Bean... Who knew how scary and witchy most Mother Goose pictures are! I also thought for a minute about trying to do the digital camera thing... but it turns out our branch is missing its software for the digital camera... and I am kind of behind on my assignments anyway.... This will have to do!

Week 2 Exercise 4

And I just sent the e-mail to the Virtual Services Team registering my blog... If you are on the team and you noticed a cc to my co-worker it's because she is putting links to all of EK staff blogs on her blog... so if you wanted another roundabout way to get to my blog, you could go to her blog at... //affengeilbibliothekar.blogspot.com ...which apparantly means "rock star librarian" in german or something like that.

Week 2 Exercise 3

Okay, if you actually notice the dates I am chugging through these posts all at once. I have been trying to stick to the weekly schedule - setting up the blog took a little longer than it should have I suppose. Anyway, as you can see... it is done. I am hoping when the 23 things are done I'll be able to add more fun stuff (like more pics of Bean!) I was a little disappointed to read that the free audio site is no longer taking new audio clips... don't you want to hear little Bean's baby snores? Other than that, it's been pretty painless so far.

Week 1 Exercise 2

Well, I kind of did this exercise already in my first post "My thoughts on Lifelong Learning". If you really want to know, please go back and read it...

Week 1 Exercise 1

Okay, so I just re-read the part in the exercises where it says we should be logging our thoughts on each of the 23 things... Back to the beginning, I think this is a neat chance for those of us (yes I'm definitely one of them) who are a little behind in some of these new-fangled techie tools to learn about them at work. I'm also pleased we will be getting a little present for doing this. I'm also excited at the possiblity of winning a bigger prize. But mostly I am glad for the chance to do this all on work time... otherwise I would try to get to it, might get to some of it... eventually, but would probably never get to all of it (or at least not before it all changes to the next hot thing.) So my seatbelt is fastened and I'm on my way!

My thoughts on Lifelong Learning

Listening to the 7 Habits tutorial and trying to pinpoint which habits I have the hardest & easiest times with made me realize that it's not always the same. At times I have trouble using technology (or finding the time to learn how to make use of it) - sometimes it might be the confidence issue - or at times I just have to push myself harder to follow through. But then there will be days I take up something new and sail on through it. One habit I never seem to have a problem with is # 7.5 - Playing! (Not sure if that counts.)

Still, as the title of my blog site suggests, a lot of my thoughts these days (including thoughts on lifelong learning) stray to my newborn little niece Phoebe aka "Bean" - born the same day I started this blog! Her entrance into the world has refreshed my eyes to the learning process from her beginnings (how concentrated her forehead gets while she is still learning to master the complexities of pooping) to the learning we all continue to do... my sister & her husband (Bean's mom & dad) suddenly masters of burping and diapering, my other sister - who has had numerous, less fun challenges thrown into her life the past several years, my parents - juggling between the joy of being new grandparents and their continuing duties to us and learning to adapt to all of the unexpected things that life brings both good and bad, even my boyfriend - who struggles a little with waiting for so much of the drama in my life to calm down.

Well I suppose where all of this rambling is leading is just that I still have many hopes and dreams - less grand than those of my youth - more personal and specific to those I love... I want for myself and those closest to me to continue to learn how to overcome their most important challenges successfully. I plan on taking a part in my baby niece's lifelong learning - I hope to help teach her (and myself and others) all of the good habits and more - but especially I look forward to #7.5 - Playing!
